In response to police violence in cities around the United States, the Heartland Tour is a first step toward rebuilding the trust between law enforcement and the communities they serve. The tour will make stops in Kansas City, Los Angeles and Rochester and feature community leaders including police commissioners, civil rights attorneys, and faith leaders.

“The movement to redefine public safety has been driven in large part by photography and visual storytelling,” said National Urban League President and CEO Marc H. Morial. “We’re proud to partner with an organization like Getty Images that has a deep understanding of the role imagery plays in shaping the national discussion.”

“The Heartland Tour will provide an important opportunity for communities systematically impacted by police violence communities to have open conversations with influential stakeholders about public safety,” said Getty Images VP of Partnerships Cassandra Illidge. “Getty Images is proud to be named the Official Photographer and help the National Urban League document this meaningful initiative.”

For over 25 years, Getty Images photographers have documented iconic historical moments, while ensuring a diverse set of experiences and perspectives are included in the storytelling process.
