Getty Images wins 20 awards at Pictures of the Year International 2015, including Photographer of the Year

Getty Images photographers win a total of 20 awards, including esteemed Photographer of the Year award issued to Getty Images Reportage photojournalist Daniel Berehulak

London – 23 February, 2015: Getty Images is delighted to announce outstanding success at this year’s Pictures of the Year International (POYI) – a total of 20 awards were received by Getty Images photographers and photojournalists, including the prestigious Photographer of the Year award which goes to Getty Images Reportage photojournalist, Daniel Berehulak, for his ground-breaking body of work covering the Ebola epidemic, captured over a period of 14 weeks.

Getty Images sports photographers received a staggering nine awards, including all three places in the Sports Photographer of the Year category, which was won by Cameron Spencer.

On Getty Images’ success, Getty Images Co-Founder and CEO, Jonathan Klein said: “We are delighted and proud that Getty Images photographers from several disciplines won POYI awards this year. Daniel Berehulak’s Photographer of the Year honour is well deserved. Daniel brings a unique artistic eye to his work, using it to make exquisite images that tell some of the most important news stories of our time.”

Having spent 14 weeks over four months in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea on assignment for The New York Times, Daniel is now currently back in Liberia on his fourth trip at great personal risk covering the effects of this cruel and merciless disease. Everyone in our industry and beyond is aware of and full of admiration for the amazing work that Daniel has done this year and we are so pleased that he has been recognized with this important award.”

In addition to his Photographer of the Year win, Daniel Berehulak also receives awards in the following categories:

– Issue Reporting – 3rd

– World Health, Award of Excellence

Sports Photographer of the Year saw Getty Images claim four awards:

– Cameron Spencer – 1st

– Al Bello – 2nd

– Patrick Smith – 3rd

– Ezra Shaw – Award of Excellence

Getty Images sport photographers were also recognised with a multitude of awards in other categories, including:

– Al Bello, Sports Action – 1st

– Alex Livesey, Sports Action – 2nd

– Cameron Spencer, Sports Feature – 2nd

– Ezra Shaw, Sports Action – 3rd

Additional awards include:

– John Moore, who won first place in News Picture Story, as well as third place in the World Health category for his work documenting the Ebola epidemic.

– Kevin Frayer received two awards – a third place award in the Features category, as well as an Award of Excellence in Feature Picture Stories.

– Mario Tama receives second place under the Community Awareness category.

– Getty Images Reportage’ photojournalist, Brent Stirton, receives first place in Issue Reporting.

– Corinna Kern, an emerging talent photojournalist with Getty Images Reportage, receives third place in the Feature Picture Story category.
