Statement from Getty Images on image miscaption

 In Company News

Getty Images sincerely apologizes for an archival image that incorrectly identified the subject as Ms. Patricia Hearst and was licensed by customers who trusted the accuracy of the caption information.  Getty Images holds itself to a high standard of editorial integrity and has robust measures in place to ensure our content ingestion process upholds these standards.  We, like all news agencies, regret when these measures fail to capture an error.

As owner of one of the largest privately owned archives in the world, we have ingested a significant amount of content over the years from a variety of sources.   Unfortunately, the error in this caption escaped notice until recent use by one of our valued customers.  As soon as it was brought to our attention, the image was removed.

We are deeply sorry to Ms. Hearst and her family for this error and meant no disrespect.
